Step Two

Came to believe that a power greater than myself could restore me to sanity.

Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.  Proverbs 16:18

Sanity means - the ability to think and behave in a normal and rational manner. The opposite of that is insanity which means – to do the same thing over and over trying to get a different result, causing irrational behavior. The main cause of this is,we don't want to give up on our way of doing things due to our pride.

Pride eliminates the need of Jesus in your life. Foolish pride will always exalt ones own self above anyone else. There is a story in the Bible about a rich young ruler:

And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.  But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. Matthew 19:16-22

This man had a problem and because of his pride he wouldn't admit to it. His problem was that he thought to much of himself. The scripture tells us:

For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. Galatians 6:3

Not only was that man full of pride, he let that pride reject Jesus. He just couldn't let go of the things that he owned in the world and follow Jesus. Being in pride can become extremely costly. The results in most cases do not end up the way you would like. There is another story in the Bible about a rich man and a beggar. This rich man was so full of pride, he had wealth, and life was going good for him. Except one thing: he had selfish pride. He did not care about anyone but himself. Look in the word and see what happens.

There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: and there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; and in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.  And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Luke 16:19-26

Look where pride got this man. It sent him to Hell! And that is where Satan wants to send you. It's time for you to do what the word of God says:

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Let God bring you out of that selfish pride. Humble yourself and surrender to Him, and say not by my will, but by your will, and receive Jesus Christ now, and invite Him into your life. God tells us in his word:

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10
