Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. 15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

Greater love have no man than this

A Friend Worth Having
Suppose you had to choose between to people who wanted to take you out to dinner. The first person is very warm and takes genuine interest in others. He listens attentively and is fun to be with. Those who develop a friendship with him want it to last a lifetime.
The second person is aloof and demanding. He keeps much of his friends at a distance. The only tine he calls is when he wants something from you. He's pretty unpredictable emotionally, and you never quite know where you stand with him. He wields considerable influence, but it it weren't for his power he probably wouldn't have any friends at all.
The question is; in your mind which of these two people do you feel who God is. Unfortunately, many people have a distorted view of God's character. To them, he's much like the second person distant and uncaring. Although he is powerful, he can' be counted upon. The only real benefit in knowing him comes from occasional answers to prayer. No wonder people have a hard time relating to him! Who would want to cultivate a friendship like this.
If your view of God has been colored by mistaken assumptions and erroneous ideas, it can be startling to learn that God longs to establish an intimate friendship with you. You have a God who cares and a God you can talk to. His name is Jesus and he says:
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy ladden, and I will give you rest.
